They amount to £95.3 million in prize money and date back as far as the Fifties.

As of December 2025, the top nine prizes to go unclaimed were each worth £100,000.

In 2026, the importance of checking your bonds is highlighted by predictions of NS&I data, which are expected to show over 2.7 million unclaimed prizes worth approximately £103.5^ million waiting to be claimed in March 2026. This represents a steady increase of roughly £2.8 million over the last quarter.

NS&I hands out thousands of prizes every month ranging from £25 to £1 million.

Although bondholders are usually contacted when they win, many people forget to change their details when they move house or switch personal details. A letter can get lost in the post or emails end up in junk folders. They then may also forget to check their numbers every month, which can be done online or on the NS&I app.

Some people may have forgotten about their bonds entirely, with 13 unclaimed prizes of an average of £27 dating back to the Fifties.

That £27 would now be worth up to £1,300 in today's money, according to this inflation calculator.

^Value of unclaimed prizes in 2026: Based on the March 2025 anchor of £95.3m, the 2026 estimate that 2.7 million unclaimed prizes could be worth approximately £103.5 million reflects the consistent ~2% quarterly growth in unclaimed pots observed as older bondholders lose track of paper records.

In the March 2026 draw, the two £1 million jackpot winners were from Nottinghamshire and Inner London. The Nottinghamshire winner held £50,000 in Bonds and purchased their winning Bond in August 2021, while the Inner London winner held £24,000 and purchased theirs in February 2024. While chances remain competitive, the prize fund rate was recently adjusted to 3.8% following a series of cuts in late 2025.

NimbleFins previously reported NS&I has raised the chances of winning a Premium Bond prize to its highest level in 15 years. (Read here if they are worth buying)

But the investment is not worth it if you forget about them.

How to check if you've won Premium Bond prize

The good news is there is no deadline to claim a Premium Bond prize and NS&I keep hold of the cash until it’s claimed.

As of September 2023, there were 2,300,822 unclaimed Premium Bond prizes worth £80,254,250. In March 2025, there were 2,530,260 unclaimed prizes worth £95,312,325. In 2026, predictions of NS&I data are expected to show that this has grown to over 2,700,000 unclaimed prizes worth approximately £103.5 million, emphasizing the need for bondholders to register for online or phone notifications.

The best way to avoid missing out on a prize is to have winnings automatically paid into your bank account or reinvested in more bonds, NS&I says.

You can do this online.

But if you want to check if you have unclaimed winnings, the quickest way to do this is to use the NS&I prize checker online or on its app.

You can also write to NS&I to ask for your prize history. You'll need to tell them your name, address, date of birth, NS&I number or Premium Bonds holder's number. The address is: NS&I, Sunderland SR43 2SB. Note, its Blackpool and Glasgow addresses are no longer in use.
