Bank operators often try to attract customers with current account switching bonuses if they bring a number of direct debits or other payments with them. The market has seen a resurgence in 2026, with several major providers offering cash bonuses to new customers.

Switching offers change frequently and can be withdrawn at short notice. All figures below were correct as of 2 July 2026; always verify current terms directly with each provider before applying.

Chase offers 2% cashback on eligible spending in selected categories (groceries, everyday transport and fuel) up to £20 per month, subject to eligibility conditions including a minimum number of monthly transactions. A linked easy-access saver is available, with a boosted rate of 4.5% AER for new customers in their first year (inclusive of a 12-month bonus rate). Standard rate applies thereafter. Nationwide FlexPlus includes family worldwide travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and European breakdown cover for £18 per month.

Current accounts with savings interest

Barclays' Rainy Day Saver pays 4.21% AER on balances up to £5,000, with a lower rate above that threshold. This account requires Barclays Blue Rewards membership (£5 per month) or Premier Banking status.

Current accounts with overdraft features

First Direct offers a £250 interest-free overdraft buffer on an ongoing basis. Interest of 39.9% EAR applies on any borrowing above that amount.

Always make sure you can afford repayments before using an overdraft facility.
