Creation Everyday Credit Card: No longer available

The Creation Everyday Credit Card is no longer available to new applicants. This page explains what made it distinctive, and gives an overview of the current UK travel credit card market for those looking for alternatives.

About the Creation Everyday Card

The Creation Everyday Credit Card was, at its peak, one of the most straightforward fee-free travel credit cards available in the UK. Its defining features were:

  • No foreign transaction fees on purchases or ATM withdrawals abroad

  • A notably low APR of 12.9% variable on purchases, cash withdrawals and balance transfers — significantly below the market average for cash withdrawal rates, which typically ran at around 28% APR on travel cards

  • No annual fee

Representative example (historical): Based on an assumed credit limit of £1,200 at a purchase rate of 12.9% p.a. (variable) with no annual fee, the representative APR is 12.9% variable.

The low cash withdrawal rate was its stand-out feature. Most credit cards (including travel-specific ones) charge a materially higher rate on cash advances, and that rate applies from the day of the withdrawal with no grace period. At 12.9%, the Creation Everyday was considerably cheaper than alternatives for cardholders who occasionally needed to withdraw local currency abroad and couldn't immediately pay off the balance.

The card was issued by Creation Financial Services, a UK consumer finance company. Creation also operated the IHG Rewards Club credit cards (now also withdrawn from the market) and a number of store card and retail finance products.

The current UK travel credit card market

The travel credit card market has shifted considerably since the Creation Everyday was active. A few trends worth knowing about:

Fee-free travel is more accessible than before. Several mainstream credit cards now offer fee-free overseas spending as a standard feature, rather than as a specialist travel product. The Barclaycard Rewards card, for example, charges no foreign transaction fees and also offers 0.25% cashback, with no interest on cash withdrawals provided the full balance is repaid each month. The Halifax Clarity (now migrated from Mastercard to Visa) similarly charges no fees on overseas spending or withdrawals, though interest on cash withdrawals begins immediately.

Digital banks have changed the landscape. App-based current accounts (Starling, Monzo, Chase and Revolut) now offer fee-free overseas spending as standard on their debit cards, often with no monthly fee. For many travellers these have reduced the need for a dedicated travel credit card, though credit cards retain the advantage of Section 75 consumer protection on purchases between £100 and £30,000.

Cash withdrawal rates remain high. Despite the broader market becoming more competitive on overseas spending fees, interest rates on credit card cash withdrawals have generally risen rather than fallen. The 12.9% APR that made the Creation Everyday distinctive is now well below what any current travel credit card charges on cash advances. Most cards now charge 28–30% APR on cash withdrawals, with interest applying from the date of the transaction. The Barclaycard Rewards card remains the main exception, treating overseas withdrawals like purchases for those who clear their balance in full.

Representative example (Barclaycard Rewards, for reference): Based on an assumed credit limit of £1,200 at a purchase rate of 28.9% p.a. (variable) with no annual fee, the representative APR is 28.9% variable.
