Miles & More Credit Cards: no longer available in the UK

The Miles & More credit card, linked to Lufthansa's frequent flyer programme, is no longer available to new applicants in the UK. This article explains what the programme offers and where the card can still be obtained.

What is Miles & More?

Miles & More is the loyalty programme of the Lufthansa Group, covering Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and a range of other Star Alliance partners. Members earn miles on flights and with a wide network of hotel, car hire and retail partners, redeemable for flights, upgrades and other rewards across more than 30 airline partners.

How the credit card works

Miles & More credit cards allow cardholders to earn miles on everyday spending, at home and abroad, accelerating their miles balance outside of flying. Miles earned on card spending can be redeemed alongside miles earned from flights, with redemption options including award flights, cabin upgrades, hotel stays and shopping.

Benefits vary by country and card tier. Welcome bonuses, insurance packages and mileage protection (which prevents miles from expiring) are among the features that differ between markets. Most countries offer at least two card tiers: a standard card and a premium or gold tier with enhanced benefits and a higher annual fee.

One notable feature across most markets: miles on Miles & More cards typically remain valid indefinitely for cardholders who hold an active card, whereas standard Miles & More programme miles expire if the account is inactive for a set period.

Where Miles & More credit cards are available

Miles & More credit cards are currently available in more than 20 countries. These include:

Europe: Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland

Americas: Mexico, USA

Asia and Middle East: India, Israel, Japan

For the full list of available countries and to apply, visit miles-and-more.com/row/en/program/credit-cards.html and select your country. Card terms, fees, earn rates and available tiers vary by market and are set by the local issuing bank rather than Miles & More directly.

What UK-based Miles & More members can do instead

UK residents cannot apply for a Miles & More credit card, but can still earn Miles & More miles through several other routes:

Flying with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings or other Star Alliance partners earns miles credited to a Miles & More account, which remains open to UK residents regardless of card availability.

Hotel stays, car hire and other partner spending can also earn miles. The Miles & More programme website lists current earning partners.

UK-based frequent flyers who want to earn airline miles on everyday card spending may find alternative airline credit cards worth exploring. For example, cards linked to British Airways Avios, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, or other programmes with UK-issued cards. These are separate programmes with different airline networks, but may suit those who fly regularly with Star Alliance partners via codeshare or partner redemptions.

In addition to flights, Miles & More miles can be redeemed for hotel stays, car hire and shopping. Flight redemptions — particularly upgrades and award flights with Lufthansa Group airlines — generally offer the highest value per mile. Hotel and shopping redemptions typically return less value per mile by comparison.

It is also worth noting that many hotel partners have their own loyalty programmes, and in most cases earning the hotel's own points on a stay will return more value than converting the stay to Miles & More miles. This is worth considering before choosing how to credit a booking.

Car hire

Miles can be redeemed for rental cars through Hotels & Cars by Rocket Travel by Agoda, Miles & More's dedicated booking portal, which offers pickup locations worldwide. Miles can also be earned on rentals with the following partners:
